William H. Bartsch is the author of two previous books published by Texas A&M Press on this phase of the War in the Pacific: Doomed at the Start: American Pursuit Pilots in the Pacific, 1941–1942 (1992) and the award-winning December 8, 1941: MacArthur’s Pearl Harbor (2003). Bartsch, who works as a consultant on national human resource planning, lives in Reston, Virginia.
