Austin History Center, Austin

Time: 6:30 pm

For more than 150 years, the hills and cedar breaks of western Travis County have been populated by the Cedar Choppers, migrants from Appalachia who made a living cutting and selling cedar logs. Who are these people? Author Ken Roberts set out to answer that question after a chance encounter with three young cedar choppers beneath the Tom Miller Dam. Roberts will share his insights from his new book, The Cedar Choppers: Life on the Edge of Nothing during an author talk at the Austin History Center. Light refreshments will be served and a book signing will follow the event, which is free and open to the public.

"Meticulously researched and engagingly written, Ken Roberts’ The Cedar Choppers leads us on a fascinating journey to the heart of this legendary Texas subculture." — Steven L. Davis, PEN USA-winning author and past president, Texas Institute of Letters
